Christmas present to myself

I love the nonfiction genre of survival/adventure stories so I bought this for moi in the course of Christmas shopping:

Savage Summit

Like I said in an earlier post, I have NO desire to climb a snowy mountain but I do enjoy reading about other people (many of whom [unfortunately] freeze to death) who do. I can feel depressed sometimes about a long, cold, Minnesota winter but I can be very glad and thankful that I am not barely hanging on to the side of a mountain, 24,000 up in the air, in the middle of 90 mph winds. What drives a person to attempt something as dangerous as climbing K2? How could a parent do that? Mind-boggling. (Maybe not so mind-boggling to me now after the morning we had/are having.)
