Now what?

I am in possession of an enormous lens. It's a rental. If it goes well I will consider spending a good portion of Christmas money towards its ownership.

Pros: All the reviews are positive. It takes good pictures in low light. It takes fast pictures at reasonably lighted sporting events. L glass is better than any other. I love to take pictures and I take A LOT of pictures so maybe I should have a ridiculously nice lens like this?

Cons: I can't lift it. I will have to ask Mary Sellke to be my lens sherpa. It's ostentatiously white. Purchasing it will cost money. The learning curve is long and of quite shallow slope. I prefer a steep learning curve because my attention span is such. Setting the camera function to "auto" doesn't create nice pictures like you think it would.
