I read Unbroken last night and almost nonstop all morning while Gary got the turkey on the grill for smoking. This book (I'm not done with it yet) contains unbelievable details about war, the will to survive, optimism, and hope in the face of unbearable cruelty during WWII.
I'm thankful today for so many things -- mostly for being alive! -- but also as much for people who sacrifice and endure in order let others live. As a person who spends a little too much time thinking about her own well-being, it's humbling to imagine a soldier's dedication to something other than one's self or immediate family.
I think I'll have to read this one!
